The T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant was the first of the Galaxy S line of Android smartphones to be released in the United States, and it's quickly becoming one of our favorites of the year. Its 4-inch screen is just about the perfect size. Not too large, and far from small. It sports a rounded design (as opposed to its more gangly cousin, the AT&T Captivate), and so it's easy to hold. It has the newfangled Super AMOLED touchscreen, which in addition to having some pretty darn good colors, is also pretty visible outdoors and might or might not produce a small puppy on command.

A few short weeks after checking out the Galaxy S line in New York City, T-Mobile's Vibrant and AT&T's Captivate are now available for purchase. With a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, the Vibrant's touchscreen is absolutely gorgeous (I was going to say vibrant, but refrained). Colors are crisp and rich, and overall picture quality is quite good. I always forget how much I love AMOLED and Super AMOLED displays until I get my hands on one and use it for a few days. The quality is stunning, and I enjoyed watching Avatar on the display. Coming in at 4.82 inches tall by 2.54 inches wide by 0.39 inch thick, and weighing 4.16 ounces, it's one of the lightest smartphones on the market. The thin profile makes it easy to slip into a pocket, glove box, or any other small space.

The Samsung Vibrant is the first of the Samsung Galaxy S imprint of phones—a group of Android phones releasing over the next few weeks (same idea as the HTC Droid group)—to hit retail. It’s a cool touchscreen phone with all kinds of social networking, media, and messaging capabilities. The other big networks will have their own versions soon (AT&T’s Captivate comes out on Sunday), but keep reading to check out our review of the T-Mobile’s version, the Samsung Vibrant.

The smartphone market moves at an amazing clip today and in May I put together a top 10 list of smartphones at the time that has radically changed over the last couple of months. I also mentioned top smartphone on each carrier in June and would make at least one change to that list. You could buy a Nexus One and use it on T-Mobile, but it was never sold through the T-Mobile retail channels and all the other Android devices were more mid-level quality. The T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant has now changed that and rises to the top of the heap for T-Mobile smartphones.

Samsung Vibrant: A Standout Multimedia Phone - 'admin' |

The T-Mobile version of Samsung's killer Galaxy S line of super Android phones, the Samsung Vibrant ($200 with a two-year contract, as of July 12, 2010) stands apart from its siblings due to the high-quality multimedia apps the carrier has preloaded on the phone. Stellar media features aside, however, Samsung's TouchWiz interface isn't for everybody, and in my tests the phone was a bit sluggish at times.

Although Apple has again pulled the spotlight from Android launches, today is a huge day for high-end phones. If you are in the market for a high end Android phone, you likely have today checked off on your calendar. Verizon's much talked about monster truck of a phone, the Droid X goes on sale today. Verizon has made a big deal of the launch including this video which they posted to YouTube last night: Droid X might not even be the best Android device launching today, however. Bigger isn't always better. T-Mobile is the first carrier to release their Samsung Galaxy S phone. Theirs is called the Vibrant and has a very appealing form factor. I've been using one for the past few days and I am very impressed with the hardware.

Samsung and T-Mobile held a small launch event for the Vibrant the other night in New York City. Since Samsung is selling four versions of the same phone with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless, I asked T-Mobile what it was doing to make its version stand out from the pack. The answer? Software and services.
